The base on the island of Labuan in Malaysia combined several busy offshore tool and skid maintenance functions on a very tight site. By turning each workshop perpendicular to its normal plan alignment and spreading the office function along the long axis, we were able to maximize the available site area.

And since most construction materials get to the island by boat, we needed to think of the lightest-weight and most economical systems to complete the project effectively. The result is a clean-lined steel-framed workshop clad with glass and aluminum panels — materials normally used for higher-end commercial construction in Malaysia.
